Jennifer Aniston's Interviews

Her four complete interviews from BBC and some magazines...

From an interview

Now, here's the deal: Friends is so successful that, if you make a movie and it's not as big as Friends, then you get people telling you, "How dare you make a movie? Keep your day job, dammit!"

An interview with Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer's latest role sees her playing the adventure-loving Polly, the foil to Ben Stiller's risk-averse character, Reuben Feffer, in the comedy Along Came Polly. Polly shoots Reuben into a whirlwind of extreme sports, spicy foods, ferrets, salsa dancing and living in the moment after he is dumped by his bride on their honeymoon.

Are you anything like your character Polly?
Hmm... I actually like dancing, so I guess I am the same in that respect. But I don't have any commitment issues in relationships, obviously! So I think that's about all I have in common with my character, yeah.
What is the last thing you just were kind of free spirited about?
Free spirit? I don't know. I am pretty controlled, I have to say, but there are aspects of Polly that are pretty similar to me, in terms of indecision. I am trying to think of the last time that I just said, 'What the hell!' and did something crazy.
How do you go back and forth so easily between dramatic and comedic roles?
I don't know. Life can be dramatic and funny all in the same day! So I kind of don't feel that there's a big change. With The Good Girl, I was also going back and forth from Friends to that in one day. So I don't know. I think you just step into the building, and that other stuff kind of goes out the door.
It's also the material. If you work from right in here (Jennifer points to her stomach), which I know Ben does, just because he's so natural and so good. That's what was so great about this job, I just laughed the whole time. Cracking up is fun, even when you're not supposed to!
How about those salsa moves of yours in Along Came Polly?
I was supposed to be a really good salsa dancer. I took two classes and I was supposed to take more, but I didn't. It was good. Thank God we got that. We had two days in New York shooting and then the next bit for me was all of the salsa dancing. It was five days straight. My feet looked like raw meat! It was just disgusting. I don't know how those dancers do it, but it was so much fun. Then right after we shot those six days, I broke my toe. So thank God we took care of all of that stuff. I limped through the rest of the movie.
How did you break your toe?
I stubbed it. It was stupid. Absolutely ridiculous. I stubbed it on an ottoman. That's no longer there. I loved learning how to salsa. I think it is an incredible dance.
How do you get that chemistry in romantic comedies just right?
I don't think you get that. I think that just has to be there. If it's not, you'd probably get a review, or you'd hear something, like 'it was a very self-conscious performance'.
What about doing sex scenes?
It can be nerve-wracking. There is just no way around it. You know, if it is awkward, there is nothing sexy. But we had fun. We were really proud of ourselves at the end of that day, that we made it through, but I have only had one other and it was 30 seconds and it was over!
What do you like about having Ben for your leading man in a movie?
I can tell you one thing off the top of my head. You know when you are listening to jazz and they are just all over the place and it is unexpected? That is sort of like Ben. A riff, sure.
Ben like does things that you sort of don't expect. Like a line, or you hear it or you read it on the page and you know the scene, you can sort of anticipate what will be happening and that just never happens with him. It's always interesting, which is why I think I laugh all the time while we are filming. I'm not very professional either, but he just surprises me. It is just unexpected all the time. That is why he is unique and real. It's always real. There is never a moment when you feel he is playing comedy. That's what I hate about a lot of comedies, when you're hitting a line or making it funny. Ben just pulls it right out.
So how come you're in Ferrets Magazine this month?
I didn't even know there was a Ferrets Magazine! That's very exciting. You know, I felt sad for that ferret in the movie, because I wasn't a big fan of the ferret. It's not the warmest and cuddliest. It bit Ben. So yeah, of all the animals out there to work with, a ferret wouldn't be my first choice. I hope I pretended as though I really liked it, but it's just a big rat at the end of the day!
